Dr.
Lee-Feng Chien received his Computer Science Ph.D. at National Taiwan University
in 1991. Since 1993 Dr. Chien joined in the Institute of Information Science,
Academia Sinica, and is a research fellow and the deputy director of the
Institute at present. He is also jointly appointed as a professor of the
Information Management Department of National Taiwan University.
Dr. Chien's current research interests include Information Retrieval, Web Mining, Spoken Language Processing, and Natural Language Processing. In these areas, he has authorized more than 100 technical papers, and many of them were published on premier journals and conference proceedings such as ACM TOIS, IEEE TSA, Computational Linguistics, JASIST, ACM TALIP, SIGIR, WWW, ACL, etc. Dr. Chien is currently an associate editor of ACM Transaction on Asian Language Information Processing. Besides, he usually served as a committee member in IR and NLP related international conferences, such as a PC member of SIGIR, AIRS, and the PC chair of the 2005 joint conference of Human Language Technology Conference and Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing, and the PC chair of the 1999 International Workshop on Information Retrieval with Asian Languages. He was a recipient of the 1998 ACM SIGIR Best Poster Award for Late-breaking Research in Melbourne. He was also the owner of the 1997 K. T. Li Award by ACM Taipei Chapter for his contribution in Chinese Information Retrieval.
