Our research interest is on mining of Web data resources, such as Web anchor texts and query logs, to discover useful knowledge for improving Web search engines and information extraction systems.

Professional Services and Events

The lab is active in professional services, especially in information retrieval and Asian language information processing. Three times the lab director has served as a PC member at ACM SIGIR conferences, the top IR conferences. He also served as the PC chair at the 1999 International Workshop on Information Retrieval with Asian Languages (IRAL'99). To simulate the development of computational terminology research, he joined with three other organizers to organize the 2002 Computational Terminology Workshop. He is currently an associate editor of ACM Transactions on Asian Language Information Processing, and from 1996 to 2001, he was also an editorial board member of Information Processing and Management.
